Tairua Rugby & Sports Club Inc
The Tairua Rugby Club was established in 1888, making it one of the oldest clubs in the whole of New Zealand. Its original players were hard men drawn from the gold mining and forestry industries that boomed in the late 1800's. History has it that our blue and white hoop playing strip originated when players travelling from Auckland brought borrowed Auckland rugby jerseys with them, the colours remaining to this day.
Like most other country rugby clubs it became and still remains the centre of the community, where locals meet up to support their team and socialise with friends.
The Club and its facilities at Cory Park Domain have developed from its origins of just men's rugby into a broader sports club encompassing cricket, tennis, soccer and netball as well as junior rugby.
Our club rooms and playing field are situated in one of the most scenic locations you could find for a sports club, which makes it an ideal venue for special event functions.
We welcome visitors to come and watch or participate at any time and gratefully acknowledge our loyal sponsors and supporters.
